Our team, led by Partner Jennifer Neal, Associates Julie Matsen and Jeasette Berrios-Martinez, and Capital Partner Frank Guerra are working with JCA Law to protect children of Texas from social media giants.
Harlandale School District is fed up with the addictive nature of social media. The major social media platforms Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, and YouTube prey on young and impressionable youth exposing them to hazardous content, causing an increase in social-emotional issues. The students of their community are their priority, and they are tired of seeing students suffer.
Social media platforms have been linked to increased anxiety, depression, cyberbullying, and sleep deprivation with prolonged use. In response, Harlandale has already hired additional counselors and implemented stricter digital firewalls. However, the district views these measures as temporary fixes that come with significant costs. Committed to addressing the broader issue, Harlandale has made it their mission to combat the negative effects of social media.
With the help of our attorneys, Harlandale is looking to implement a permanent solution. Jennifer Neal, the lead Partner from our firm on this case, is a Texas native who is passionate about this case. “Our schools face enough challenges without the addition of unnecessary monetary and social costs caused by social media conglomerates.”
The influence of these social media giants has gone unchecked long enough. Harlandale and our firm are sending a clear message: the safety and mental health of Texas children come first. Attorneys Jennifer Neal, Julie Matsen, Jeasette Berrios-Martinez, and Frank Guerra along with their team are ready to help with this call to action to pave the way for long term change that holds these platforms accountable.
