The Difference Between Filing a Personal Injury Suit in State Versus Federal Court
When filing a personal injury lawsuit, attorneys are sometimes, depending on the state citizenship of the parties, presented with the question of whether filing in state or federal court is more advantageous for their client. While state and federal courts have many similarities, the distinctions between the two may become the difference between winning or losing a case. Prior to filing a suit, an attorney should consider the structure of both court systems, the similarities, and differences between the two, and the perceived advantages and disadvantages of filing your personal injury case in either.
The Female Law Clerks of Guerra LLP
The first known female law clerk in the United States was in 1944 at the United States Supreme Court. Lucile Lomen clerked for Justice William O. Douglas from 1944-1945. She graduated first in her class and was one of the three women in her male-dominated class at the University of Washington Law School.
Lucile managed to obtain her clerkship due to circumstances. The US was fighting in World War II which reduced the number of men in law school. Justice Douglas had four previous law clerks from UWLS and told the Dean he would accept a woman only if she was “first-rate”. Once hired, she provided the Judge with the fastest legal research he had ever seen and worked 16-hour days where she would sometimes sleep on her couch in her office to maximize her time at work. Upon her departure, it would take another 22 years before another female clerked at the United States Supreme Court level.

Guerra LLP to Represent Man Who Was Helping Build SoFi Stadium
June 5th, 2020 Juan Becerra lost his life while building the SoFi stadium in Los Angeles. Meant to house the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers along with being the future spot for the Super Bowl, College Football Playoff Championship, World Cup, and Olympics, this venue now holds a different meaning for those who knew Juan Becerra.
