Fairness for Fire Victims

Fairness for Fire Victims

We need your help. The California Legislature has started debate on proposals that would give for-profit utilities like Edison and PG&E reduced or limited liability for damages when their equipment starts wildfires, making it even harder for survivors like you to recover what you are owed.

We are asking you to join (or, if you previously joined, re-join) Fairness for Fire Victims and help us push back.

We started Fairness for Fire Victims to make victims whole, and we haven’t stopped fighting for you. Unfortunately, California’s utility companies haven’t stopped either. They continue to start deadly wildfires that have destroyed thousands of homes, killed hundreds of people and caused billions in damages, all while charging record-high rates, posting record profits and working overtime finding new ways to avoid being held accountable for any of it.

Their tactics keep getting worse. Their greed keeps growing. So our fight has to grow too.

Fairness for Fire Victims is expanding our mission to stand up against utilities putting profits over people.

Whether you were a victim of PG&E, Edison or Pacificorp, you know what it is like to lose everything because of a utility’s corporate irresponsibility and greed. Lawmakers need to hear directly from you.

Fairness for Fire Victims is building a statewide coalition of wildfire victims to ensure that California does not move backward on accountability, victim recovery, and meaningful wildfire prevention. We will advocate for:

• Real accountability for utility-caused fires.
• Protection of victims’ rights to recover their full losses.
• A fair and stable insurance system.
• Full compensation for PG&E bankruptcy victims.
• Transparent, verified wildfire mitigation work.

Even if you signed up before, we need you to please re-join Fairness for Fire Victims to learn more about what we are fighting for.

Together, we will counter the political power of the utilities and demand California’s policy-makers advance fairness, accountability, and true public safety, rather than shielding for-profit utilities from responsibility. We would be honored to have you join us.

Sincerely,
Mike Yates
